About Staten Island
Staten Island is a New York borough that’s located in the southwest of the city. Well-known for the (free) Staten Island Ferry, the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and Freshkills Park, Staten Island is characterized by a predominantly white population (64%), alongside people who identify as African, Caribbean, Asian or American Indian. Around 14% of the population is aged 65 or older – more than the average for several of the other NY boroughs.
There are a number of different neighborhoods on Staten Island – the most sought after areas include Richmond Road, New Dorp, Huguenot and Great Kills. Other neighborhoods where cheaper rental accommodation can often be obtained are Parkhill, New Brighton and several areas on the North Shore. Staten Island is a popular location for families to live, and is often thought of as being a quieter, more suburban part of New York in comparison with some of the other boroughs.
We thought it would be helpful not only to tell you what we feel our strengths to be, but also to ask our staff and residents to give you some firsthand information on their experience of living or working at our independent living facility. See what they have to say about everything from our great accommodation through to the standard of care they receive.
